Beyond the Nursery:

The First-Time Parent’s Guide to the Postpartum Blind Spots Nobody Talks About

A free workbook for first-time parents who want to get on the same page — before the baby arrives and the 3am conversations become 3am arguments.

You've researched the stroller. You've picked the nursery colours. But have you talked about who does night feeds when you're both exhausted? What happens when your in-laws show up uninvited? What are some of the government benefits you could be taking advantage of?

Most couples find out the answers to these things in real time. This workbook helps you figure them out before you need to.

Here's what the workbook covers:

💬 The Relationship Talk — the questions most couples skip, from night feed plans to what you each look like at your worst

💰 The Money Talk — hidden costs, and the Canadian benefits most new parents don't claim in time (CCB, EI, RESP, CWELCC and more)

🚪 Visitors & Boundaries — who gets in the first month, how to say no without guilt, and the signal that means "this visit needs to end now"

🌿 Recovery & Body — what postpartum recovery actually looks like, warning signs to know, and why pelvic floor care matters even if nothing feels wrong

🧠 Mental & Emotional Shifts — matrescence, baby blues vs. postpartum depression, paternal mental health, and how to define "struggling" for each other before you need to

🍲 The First 48 Hours Home — the soft landing plan, what to stock, what to prep, and why feeding the person who just grew a human is not an afterthought

What’s Inside

👋 Hi, I'm Kana!

I'm a certified postpartum doula and perinatal nutrition professional based in Toronto. I work with soon-to-be and newly postpartum families every day — and I created this workbook based on what I actually see missing in the couples I support.

The families who navigate the fourth trimester a little more smoothly aren't the ones who had it easiest (postpartum is often times not easy, to be clear, even with amazing help). They're the ones who slowed down and had the conversations worth having before baby arrived.

This workbook is where those conversations start!

I thought we were prepared. This workbook showed me all the things we hadn’t thought to talk about.

The money section alone was worth downloading for. We had no idea about half of these benefits, especially being new to Canada.
— First-time parents
My wife and I were so excited about setting up the nursery but this workbook kept us a little more grounded to talk about the not-so-fun but critical stuff too.
— Soon-to-be first-time dad
